At GESS we provide international education in English and German from Pre-School to grade 12. With our one school – two system philosophy, GESS is an authorized IB World School for PYP, MYP and IB Diploma Programmes in addition to offering the German curriculum leading to all German school leaving certificates.
GESS is an independent school and welcomes students of any nationality, race or belief.
With average class sizes of 24 students in the German Section and 22 students in the European Section, teachers at GESS have the capacity to provide focused attention for each student.
Applications for admissions to GESS can be submitted at any time during the academic year and acceptance is subject to availability. GESS reserves the right to decline student applications which do not meet the academic, language or personal expectations of the school.
Final acceptance and enrolment is subject to the school’s principal and the school receiving all the required information. Only children enrolled before 30th April in the kindergarten/preprimary classes of the current school year will get automatic placement in the next school year for our Foundation or grade 1 classes, subject to our usual terms/conditions and educational decision-making.
Age requirements
Pre-School: The minimum age for admission to the Parent-Child-Groups is 18 months, for Toddler Groups 2 years and for Kindergarten 3 years. Parents or guardians of children who reach the age of 5 years in the period from 1 July to 31 December can apply for early admission into Pre-Primary.
Primary School – Grade 1: Children who have reached the age of 6 years by 30 June will be admitted to grade 1. Parents or guardians of children who reach the age of 6 years in the period from 1 July to 31 December can apply for early admission into grade 1.
Primary and Secondary School: Acceptance to Primary and Secondary School is dependant on reports and grades obtained in previous schools.
Nationality and Language
The GESS accepts students of all nationalities. English is the language of instruction in our European Section. The “English as an Additional Language” Programme (EAL) supports students who are non-native speakers of English, and whose reading and writing skills need to be developed individually to keep up with the level required for their respective grade.
Children of different national backgrounds have a unique cultural identity. We believe it is important to preserve this identity and the language skills associated with it. Upon request from a sufficient number of parents, the school will assist interested parents to launch a CCA (after school class) through which language skills can be developed or maintained. GESS is interested in incorporating further languages in the Secondary School.
